(Le) Poisson Rouge (often referred to as LPR) is a music venue and multimedia art cabaret in New York City founded in 2008 by Justin Kantor and David Handler on the former site of The Village Gate. The performance space was designed and engineered by John Storyk/WSDG. It has become a notable venue for its focus on artistry, bring classical music into the club setting, and offering a variety of set ups so that a seated classical performance can be followed by a standing set by a rock band or a DJ.
Kantor and Handler, both graduates of Manhattan School of Music, founded LPR with the stated desire of creating a venue that would foster the fusion of "popular and art cultures" in music, film, theater, dance, and fine art.[1]
The venue is home to a myriad variety of genres focusing on classical, new music, indie rock, and jazz, but also playing host to readings, comedy, film, DJs, parties, theater, and burlesque.[2]

“A forward-thinking venue that seeks to showcase disparate musical styles under one roof…artistically planned eclecticism.” -Time Out New York[6]
“The place isn’t merely cool, as the New York Times has dubbed it, the venue is a downright musical marvel.” -Los Angeles Times[7]
“Just when you thought all artistic integrity had been sucked out of NYC’s cookie-cutter nightlife, Greenwich Village gets a performance space fir for orchestras and punk rockers alike.” - Shecky’s[8]
"No surprise, really: Le Poisson Rouge, in both its chic veneer and its earnest disregard for genre boundaries, has embraced a style and ethos fostered by the Kronos Quartet for more than three decades. In any given week at the club you might hear classical post-Minimalism, beat-heavy electronica, evanescent chamber pop and clever world-music fusions." – New York Times [9]
